What is a vanity address?!

An address that begins with a predefined string. The generator generates random addresses until it finds one that matches the given pattern. Generally, people have them start with their name, or something like that. I fail to see the usefulness, but to each their own.

Vanity address + FirstBits + Autocomplete = goodness.

If you have a vanity address, you can tell someone, "My BTC address is '1mkaito'" or something. That's more than enough to do a FirstBits search on BlockChain.info. Combined with a wallet client that auto-completes addresses using FirstBits search, and you've massively simplified the act of sending BTC to people.

Heck, since all BTC addresses start with '1', you can eliminate the '1' from the address you give to people, and have the wallet software pre-fill that. So now your BTC address has become 'mkaito'. I'd say that's useful.

We'll just end up with "my address is xxX123mkaitopokemon312Xxx" in a few years.

Have you tried generating a vanity address that long? No? Go try it; it might take you the rest of your natural life... and that of your descendants 20-deep. ;)

There's a reason vanity addresses are really short. I tried generating one starting with '1UnnDunn'... it was projected to take around 30 days.

I know. I was just making a point about things in a namespace of 4-6 letters running out really fast.

well you will have plenty of combitations since the string after those 4-6 will always change
